TB: 5 Music Videos

Below are 5 videos that I have chosen to share with my group , they all have attributes that I feel aid us in making our decision as to what style of video we eventually will choose.

This video fits in with our current mindset , doing a boy band video. The video is a good example of modern 'comradery' that is synonymous with the boy band image. They are on a 'lads' holiday in Ibiza and the song is exploring the relationships that develop between the men and women. Although this is obviously a high budget , mainstream film production I think the 'boyish' feeling shown in the video is definitely what we should aim for if we are to show iconic features of this genre.

This video has an attribute key to making a successful music video , an authentic feel that the stars are actually performing. The emotion of the band ( Take That ) is necessary to convince the audience they are not diminishing the initial talent that makes them what they are. I think that in our video we need to put a good effort into the performance to make the video have this sense of authenticity.

This video is completely different to the 2 above , I've chosen it because it uses a strong narrative to reach its audience , with the music being the backdrop to enforce the emotion on screen. I've shared it because I think its important to consider the idea of perhaps forming a narrative to keep viewers engaged with the song.

I chose this song by Coldplay because the entire video is shot with a continuous shot with the lead singer simply walking towards the camera , the notion being that simplicity can be incredibly effective.

This video , by LMFAO , demonstrates that a video can almost be 'carried' by a single outstanding feature ( the dancing in this case ). I think that when thinking about the production of our video we should consider an area in which we could potentially excel in comparison to other videos and should fully exploit it.

JI: 5 Music Videos

Here are five music videos which I have recently seen and taken my interest in different ways.

In this Ed Sheeran video there is not much going on being so simplistic however I find it very intriguing and effective, with the presence of only one man in the majority moving to the pace of the song in just an empty room creates the question, why? However I feel it gets me focusing on him all the time and wondering what's he going to do next? Which I feel a video should do.

Two Door Cinema Club have clearly used quite a low budget to produce this video however I think it is effective and amusing. It's simplistic with the clear view of people dressed in black in the background being used as props, however I feel this brings the enjoyment to the video and makes it entertaining.

What I like in Examples video is the rich British feel which is bedded throughout this video and the relationship between the lyrics and video, with the youthful generation portraying the crazy stereotype which is often given. I like the location of the abandoned setting as it gives a feel of a secret location away from the normal world, where they're having a good time.

The reason I like this video and feel it is effective as it's a video which almost anybody could recreate and it is fun to watch! Bruno Mars' main target audience is younger people, so this style of video allows his fans to relate to him, and even create their own style which many fans have done, which shows the video has done its job, and sold to the audience.

I really like this narrative based Coldplay video, as as the video develops, however going backwards in time, the story of the song unravels which leads you through the main characters story and develops meaning as the song goes on which relates to the lyrics, "I'm going back to the start" which happens in the video, which the audience could relate to situations in their life where they wish they could do the same.

JI: Initial ideas with genre

After our discussion today we have come to the conclusion of a pop style boy band once looking at numerous of examples. This is a great idea as we can make a simplistic but effective video with limited resources, and it can allow us to mirror the fun persona and enjoyment which boy bands portray as their star image.

Here are a few videos which we could gain some inspiration and key ideas from:

One Direction are a lively young boy band with a huge following and they portray their crazy characteristics within this. I chose this as it is an effective video with no great editing skills, which for us is a good stepping stone with our limited resources. This is definitely something we could do with a good location, so I feel gaining ideas from this would be great.

This Backstreet Boys video, also portrays what their star image they are getting across to their audience, with a charming group targeting predominately the female audience.

From both these videos a trait which seems to come across from the boy band type videos is a strong connection within the group and a sense of fun and a great lifestyle, so these are key ideas we will have to get across when planning our video.
