After looking at each of our individial moodboards( pictured above) and discussing what we found in our research , we are confident of the style and format of the boy band video we plan to film. One point of research that was explored throughout each of our moodboards was iconography , especially costume. In older bands it is clear that the memebers used to wear coherant clothing , with almost entirely matching costumes. These older bands including looking at The Backstreet boys , Westlife , Boyzone. However , after looking at more modern bands we decided that members will wear clothes synonymous with the age group they represent e.g One direction , wear clothes associtated with teenage boys.
Another point of research we discussed was using the ' Male Gaze' in our own videos. This stylistic is common in Boy Band videos as the members of the band are trying to connect with their audience. ( Boy Band audiences and fan bases largely consist of females )
It was also clear that Boy Bands are one of the most self promoting genres of band , everything they do is aimed at marketing to an audience. For example , in order to sell more albums they will appeal to the nature of there audience. There fanbase is dedicated to the band because of the way they appeal to them through their music. A dreamy , fantasy-like star image is contructed through songs aimed at females , e.g love songs , putting their own feelings into there lyrics.
I personally raised my view on how a certain video style can help enforce the mood of a song. I suggested a that we have some parts of the video shot in black and white. In my research i found that black and white footage can be used to highlight specific emotions in the song , especially deep meaningful sitations that are being shown to the audience. ' Meat shots' also feature heavily in Boy Band videos , so we plan to have plenty of CU shots to help us connect with our audience.
